Alcohol Testing EtG / EtS Urine Tests

Los Angeles ETG / ETS Alcohol Urine Tests

We Offer ETG (Ethyl Glucuronide) & ETS (Ethyl Sulphate) Urinalysis for Alcohol Detection at ARCpoint of Los Angeles, CA

The Advantages of Alcohol ETG & ETS Urine Tests over other alcohol drug tests are that they record alcohol usage up to 80 hours after consumption.

Substance abuse and addiction is a growing problem in this country and alcohol abuse plays a large part.

Two conventional methods are commonly used for alcohol testing - simple urine tests and Breathalyzers. These methods are used to detect if one has consumed alcohol recently; but no such method was able to ascertain if one had taken alcohol more than 24 hours ago. This is because alcohol is processed by the body very rapidly, usually at a rate of 1 drink per hour.

Recently, a new protocol has been developed which is being tagged as the "gold standard of alcohol testing" because it can tell if someone has used alcohol even a few days back!

This powerful protocol successfully uses two newly developed testing techniques - the EtG (Ethyl Glucuronide) Test & The EtS (Ethyl Sulphate) Test. These methods are able to sketch down the whole alcoholic consumption history of the last 80 hours. This is a very useful tool for a zero tolerance policy on alcohol consumption.

How Does an EtG/EtS Alcohol Test Work?

Ethyl glucuronide (or ETG) is a metabolite only produced when alcohol is in the bloodstream. It is identified as a marker in alcohol through an analytical process that provides forensic evidence of the pattern of alcohol abuse - or absence of it.

The more alcohol a person consumes the greater amount of EtG markers are present in the bloodstream. The presence of EtG in the urine can be used to detect recent alcohol consumption, even after the ethanol alcohol is no longer measurable. As a result, it can be determined that a urine alcohol test employing EtG is a more accurate indicator of the recent consumption of alcohol as opposed to simply measuring for the existence of ethanol alcohol.

If the laboratory detects the presence of EtG in the urine sample, it then also tests for the presence of EtS (another alcohol metabolite). Testing for both these metabolites improves the accuracy and reliability of the test.

ARCpoint of West Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood & Culver City, CA generally uses EtG / EtS Urine Testing for zero tolerance and alcohol abstinence programs such as Drug Courts, family law, treatment facilities, and school systems.

Features and benefits of EtG/EtS testing include:

  • Combined test for EtG and EtS provides greater sensitivity and accuracy
  • Ideal for zero tolerance and abstinence situations
  • Strong indicator of ethanol ingestion within the previous 3 to 4 days
  • Allows monitoring in alcohol treatment programs
  • Acts as early warning system to detect trends towards relapse
  • Tests performed by LC/MS/MS on state of the art equipment
  • EtG/EtS tests may be run on urine specimens in conjunction with other ARCpoint drug testing panels
  • Fast turn-around time from receipt of specimen (48 hours1 negative, 72 hours positive)
  • Results available via internet, fax and/or U.S. Mail

A Medical Review Officer (MRO) service is available upon request to help identify "incidental exposure" to products or medications that might produce EtG/EtS positive test results.

FAQ Can a DOT-regulated commercial motor vehicle driver use a prescription and still perform safety-sensitive duties?
A. Yes, under certain circumstances and as long as the prescription in question is not methadone. Regulations state that, 'A person is physically qualified to drive a CMV if that person does not use a controlled substance.' A driver may use such a substance or drug, if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who is familiar with the driver's medical history and assigned duties; and has advised the driver that the prescribed substance or drug will not adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a CMV. This exception does not apply to methadone.
FAQ Is alcohol urine testing a good method for testing alcohol use?
A. Urine testing for EtG and EtS metabolites is a very accurate way to determine all recent alcohol use. It is highly sensitive and can detect a single drink for 24 hours after it was consumed.
